This incredibly strong, sound and usable 1974 Aston Martin V8 came to us from one of our regular customers in 2024 before we sold it to a collector based in the Northeast. YJT 413M is a very correct, original car with some impressive features. This is a relatively low ownership car, and it only changed twice between 1974 and 2018 when it then came into the hands of Aston Martin Works at Newport Pagnell. At this point the Aston Martin was inspected by the Works Service technicians, important areas such as the sills were declared in strong, sound condition, as was the general underside. The car was notably very original, and Aston Martin Works supplied this V8 example for £80, 000 to a classic collector and enthusiast living between both London and Switzerland. The car was purchased for use in regularity rallies and events in Europe and in preparation for this, around £59, 000 was spent with post war Aston Martin specialists and restorers Goldsmith & Young Ltd in 2019 taking the total investment to almost £140, 000.
The Aston Martin had a brake upgrade, and new parts included brake calipers, brake discs, disc bell mounting kits, mounting brackets, brake pads and all new brake hoses. The majority of expense was on a full engine rebuild and upgrade to 5. 7 specification/ pistons. A detailed invoice with several pages cover off all parts to include the 5. 7 pistons, main and big end bearings, inlet valves, valve guides, stainless manifold studs, valve springs, cam followers, oil pump, oil pump chain and specialist services including boring, balancing, re-grinding, machining, zinc plating and ceramic coating. With the engine and ancillaries removed, the engine bay was fully re-furbished and restored as required. The automatic transmission was overhauled and various ancillaries such as the starter motor and alternator replaced. Whilst with the specialists a modern, Fenair air-conditioning upgrade was carried out and windscreens and rear quarter light windows were removed for new rubbers and re-sealing. Other work included refurbishing various gauges, renewal of all vacuum pipes and re-assembling the dash to carry out this work, new boot springs and ahead of its overseas touring, both servos were sent away for exchange ‘high boost’ servo’s. On completion of almost £60, 000 of preparation work, the Aston Martin was ready for on the Continent touring.
Having fully prepared the Aston Martin, it was registered with FIVA paperwork and entered various events including the Gstaad Palace Challenge and London – Lisboa Rally. The Aston Martin has since covered around 4000 miles before changing hands in 2023 when it was purchased by one of our customers. On initial purchase, £8000 was spent on servicing the car, replacing the tyres and having specialist trimming work carried out to preserve the cars excellent, largely original interior. Since being sold by Aston Martin Works almost £70, 000 has been spent taking this car to a very impressive standard. Its clear diligent preparation has been carried out, and its previous owners have ensured the car has been maintained to the very highest standards with no expense spared. This Aston V8 is very impressive, it has a structurally excellent body with nicely aged, honest paintwork, it retains a lovely interior trim and the mechanical condition having had a major engine and gearbox rebuild is outstanding. The engine bay has been superbly prepared, and on the road this Aston Martin V8 offers incredible performance from the superbly prepared enhanced engine. Not only is performance impressive, but the car also offers comfort, luxury, excellent handling and improved braking. This is a fantastic value car, it’s a true driver’s car that is on the button and ready for more European adventures.
