The story behind the Plus 8 50th anniversary edition is as unique as the car itself. It goes that BMW stopped production of the V8 that is at the heart of the Plus 8. So that meant no more Aeros or the plus 8. BMW then approached MMC with a small batch of V8, which were snapped up and the Morgan Plus 8 50th anniversary edition was born, only 50 examples exist, they rarely come up for sale.
The engine, the BMW 4. 8l naturally aspirated N62 which was in many great cars, outputs 367 BHP and has 370lb ft of torque giving even more outrageous performance. Coupled with a ZF 6 speed automatic gearbox which has a manual option with paddles under the steering wheel.
Speaking of the ride, the aluminium bonded chassis, which the latest Morgan use, is stiffer than previous versions because of improvements made. This means its more responsive and better handling as a result.
There has been some welcomed upgrades over the standard car, SSL coil overs were added in 2023. This system significantly improves the ride comfort to make it a great fast, long distance car. The handling is now more progressive whilst giving slightly more roll and gives you better feedback during the corners. The upgrade is adjustable which means you can choose how soft or hard you want your ride.
Other notable improvements are the luggage rack has been modified to sit lower so vision when looking back carry luggage means you can actually see. If you don’t want to carry luggage a discrete bar is supplied to show off the art work. There is a larger brake pad for more foot feel and the side screens have been trimmed with leather. A useful pocket was added in the passenger footwell.
This car, is number 3 of the 50 and what makes this car even more rare is the artwork on the rear spare wheel cover. It depicts a memorial to the Plus 8, you can see from the photos that there is the car that started it all, MMC 11, the speedster version of the Plus 8 and Peter Morgan. The art work is by award winning DDK airbrushing.
A Chrstopher Ward C1 Chronometer watch was also included when purchased, making the whole package even more special. The watch has a piece of the legendary MMC11 car inside, once again, there were only 50 made.
